Choosing the appropriate place to share your scholarship is important in order to maximize its visibility and impact while avoiding predatory publishers. This workshop will introduce you to commonly used scholarly metrics for evaluating a publication's impact. We'll walk-through how to locate these metrics, how to interpret them, and how to create author profiles to highlight your research and track its impact. We'll also look at tips for identifying predatory publishers and how to select the right journal for your work.

Attendees will learn about:

  • article level metrics such as citation counts
  • journal level metrics such as the Journal Impact Factor
  • author level metrics such as the h-index
  • altmetrics
  • author profiles such as ORCID and Google Scholar profiles
  • selecting a journal for your manuscript and avoiding predatory publishers
