Right to Read Day
Event box
Join us as we mark Right to Read Day, a national day of action dedicated to celebrating and defending the freedom to read. Launched by the American Library Association (ALA) as part of the Unite Against Book Bans initiative, Right to Read Day calls on communities to stand up for libraries, library workers, and the fundamental right to access information without censorship.
Across the country, libraries are facing unprecedented challenges to intellectual freedom, with increasing attempts to remove or restrict access to books. Right to Read Day is a reminder that libraries are spaces of discovery, belonging, and free expression - and that everyone deserves the ability to choose what they read for themselves.
Stop by our table to take part in this important conversation and celebrate the power of books! We’ll have:
- Banned Books Trivia – Test your knowledge (and maybe discover a new read)
- Advocacy Information – Learn how you can support the freedom to read in your community
- Books on Display – Explore titles that have been challenged or banned
- Zine Creation Station – Get creative and make your own mini-publication celebrating intellectual freedom
Right to Read Day is about showing up: for our libraries, for each other, and for the stories that help us understand the world. Whether you stay for a few minutes or dive into the activities, your presence helps affirm that the freedom to read matters.
