Reading Status: It's Complicated
Reading Status: It's Complicated In-Person

Are you in love with your current book? Casually seeing it? Taking a break? Carrying it around with the best intentions? Wherever you’re at, you’re welcome here.

Reading Status: It’s Complicated is a relaxed, come-as-you-are reading hangout where there’s no assigned book, no expectation to finish anything, and no pressure to speak unless you want to. Bring whatever you’re currently reading, or come ready to find something new.

This isn’t a traditional book club. We’re talking vibes, moods, and reading experiences, not plots or analysis. You can share how your book is treating you, listen in, read quietly, or just enjoy the atmosphere.

Here’s how the evening will flow:

  • Arrive & get cozy: grab a cup of hot chocolate, find a comfortable spot, and settle in

  • Browse & discover: explore the Library’s Popular Books Collection and trade book recommendations with fellow students and librarians

  • Read & relax: spend some time reading, skimming, or just existing with a book

  • Optional discussion: chat about your current reading status (loving it, stuck, on pause, complicated)

  • Wind down: keep reading, browsing, crafting, or chatting at your own pace

Feel free to bring a crochet, knitting, or other quiet craft project to work on while we read and talk. Multitasking is encouraged; participation is always optional.

All genres and formats are welcome: print, e-books, audiobooks, graphic novels, and books you’re “definitely going to start soon.”

Whether you’re deep into a story, looking for your next read, or just want a cozy place to unwind, this is a space to slow down and enjoy reading without expectations. No homework. No pressure. Just good books, good company, and a warm cup of something comforting.

Registration is not required, but it helps to give us a sense of how much hot chocolate to get!
