Movie Nights in Minerva: Hamlet (1990)
Event box
Nothing says “birthday party” like a Shakespearean tragedy… right? Join us as we celebrate William Shakespeare’s birthday (a little early) with a screening of Hamlet (1990), because what’s more festive than existential dread, family drama, and a ghost with a revenge agenda?
Directed by and starring Mel Gibson as the famously conflicted Danish prince, this cinematic take on one of Shakespeare’s most iconic plays brings all the intensity, betrayal, and “to be or not to be” energy to the screen. Featuring Glenn Close, Alan Bates, Ian Holm, and Helena Bonham Carter, the film leans into the drama (and the drama of the drama) in all the best ways.
Runtime: 2 hours 15 minutes
Expect revenge plots, royal messiness, questionable decisions, and at least one moment where you think, “this could have been solved with better communication.”
Popcorn will be hot and fresh, because while something is rotten in the state of Denmark, your snacks will be anything but. Whether you’re here for the literature, the vibes, or just to see how dramatic one prince can be, come take a break and celebrate the Bard with us. To be there… or not to be there? (We think you know the answer.)
Registration is not required, but it certainly helps us plan how much popcorn we need!
