This Week’s Fright: Carnival of Souls (1962)

After surviving a terrible car accident, Mary Henry moves to a new town hoping to leave the experience behind. Instead, she finds herself drawn to an abandoned lakeside carnival—and haunted by the appearance of a mysterious, ghostly figure who seems to be following her wherever she goes. Dreamlike, eerie, and deeply unsettling, Carnival of Souls traded big monsters and buckets of blood for something much stranger. Its surreal atmosphere and creeping sense of isolation helped make this low-budget oddity a cult classic and an influential piece of horror cinema.
