What’s “public domain,” you ask? These are works that have slipped free from copyright’s grip, meaning they belong to everyone. For scholars and students, public domain materials are treasures: they can be studied, remixed, taught, and shared without restriction. For horror fans? They’re a free-for-all of ghosts, monsters, and ghoulish delights we can screen without summoning a copyright lawyer.

Final Fright: 13 Ghosts (1960)

For our final film, we’re heading back into William Castle territory for a haunted-house tale packed with restless spirits, hidden secrets, and plenty of delightfully spooky 1960s fun. When the financially struggling Zorba family inherits the mansion of their eccentric uncle, it seems like their luck has finally changed. There’s just one little catch: the house comes with ghosts. Lots of them. Armed with a special pair of goggles that lets him see the supernatural residents, young Buck Zorba discovers that the family’s new home may contain both a hidden fortune and some very unwelcome houseguests.

Originally released with Castle’s wonderfully gimmicky “Illusion-O” process, audiences were given special viewers that supposedly allowed them to choose whether they wanted to see the ghosts. We can’t promise you’ll have the same choice in the Minerva Room—the ghosts may just find you anyway.
