Zine Bookbinding 101 In-Person

Curious about how zines, books, and other handmade publications are put together? Join us for Zine Bookbinding 101, a beginner-friendly introduction to the basics of bookbinding!

We’ll start with a brief introduction to what binding is and how it can be used to turn loose pages into your own handmade publication. Then, you’ll get some hands-on practice by creating and binding a blank zine of your own. Already have a zine project in the works? Feel free to bring it along and bind it during the workshop!

No previous bookbinding experience is necessary, and all tools and supplies will be provided. Come learn a new skill and leave with a hand-bound zine at the Science Library Preservation Lab (third floor)!

This event is part of the University Libraries' Campus Collaborations fall series - Cut, Copy, & Paste: Zines are the Theme at the Library. This fall, the University Libraries invite students to explore the creative, political, and hands-on world of zines through a series of workshops, presentations, and community events. Participants will learn about zine history, bookbinding, DIY publishing, creative tools, and UAlbany’s growing zine community. Whether you are new to zines or already making your own, these events offer opportunities to create, share, and connect with others interested in self-publishing and independent expression.
